Don’t use hate speech, the CEO advises lawmakers

To discuss different issues of the impending elections, state representatives from major political parties have gathered for a conference called by State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sibin C.

He counseled political parties and candidates to abstain from using hate speech, requesting votes based on caste or religion, and making personal assaults on their rivals. The total number of voters (2,12,71,246), including male voters (1,11,92,959), female voters (1,00,77,543), transgender voters (744), people with disabilities (1,57,257), voters from overseas (1,597), and the total number of polling places (24,433) were among the important figures he highlighted during the session.

He briefed the audience on the new laws that let voters who are 85 years of age or older and those with impairments to cast their ballots from home.

The CEO said that the state had a 150 percent availability rate for EVMs, which means that there is a 50 percent excess availability above what is needed. In addition, he guaranteed that every polling place will have the basic amenities, such restrooms, water supplies, ramps, and enough lighting. He emphasized that every voting place will be conveniently situated within two kilometers of each voter’s residence.

The CEO also went over the main rules of the code of conduct. He also emphasized how important it is to get district officials’ authorization in advance for gatherings and other activities.

He gave information on the Suvidha portal and how it helps to streamline the nomination process.
