Priyanka accuses the BJP of wanting to alter the Constitution and calls on voters to support such changes

Congress’s general secretary, Priyanka Gandhi, asserted on Sunday that the Modi-led BJP government at the Centre harbors intentions to amend the Indian Constitution, thereby undercutting the rights guaranteed to the people.

Addressing an election rally in Balod, she accused BJP leaders of making extravagant promises and indulging in high-flown rhetoric while evading the concerns of the people.

“Numerous BJP leaders and ministers are openly proclaiming in their campaigns that if their party secures a Lok Sabha majority of 400 seats, they will revise the Constitution. Despite PM Modi’s denial, this seems to be their strategy. Otherwise, how could BJP leaders openly deliberate on modifying the Constitution without the tacit approval of Modi ji? The reality is, they are no longer trustworthy. Once they secure the numbers, they will likely proceed with altering the Constitution,” she cautioned, expressing apprehension that such actions would erode people’s rights and dignity.

Priyanka Gandhi, Congress’s general secretary, labeled the BJP-ruled Centre as a fascist, racist, and oppressive government, urging voters to judiciously exercise their franchise, emphasizing that they have the authority to change the government if it fails to meet their expectations.

“There is an imperative for change. Otherwise, if the BJP returns to power for another five years, the country’s future becomes uncertain. We may witness alterations in the Constitution, curtailment of rights, increased inflation, unemployment, and challenges faced by citizens, while prominent industrialists gain more sway and leaders become more authoritarian,” she asserted.

Spotlighting the accomplishments of the previous Congress government in Chhattisgarh, she censured the new BJP administration for discontinuing welfare schemes initiated by the former Bhupesh Baghel-led government.

Priyanka also took a dig at the PM, questioning why Modi ji, who is perceived as influential on the global stage, has not effectively tackled domestic issues such as unemployment and inflation. “This suggests that his projection of power is superficial, and there may be doubts about his intentions,” she alleged.

Drawing a comparison between PM Modi and Indira Gandhi, she lauded the former Prime Minister for her patient approach in addressing people’s concerns and safeguarding their rights. “Indiraji continues to hold a special place in your hearts because she refrained from political theatrics. People need to deeply contemplate the current state of affairs,” she urged.

Priyanka criticized the BJP’s electoral bonds scheme, alleging that it has exposed corrupt practices, particularly after the Supreme Court’s intervention.

“Modiji labels opposition leaders as corrupt, files cases against them, and incarcerates them. However, when corrupt leaders from other parties join the BJP, all investigations and cases are conveniently dropped,” she claimed.
