Five people are hurt after a gas cylinder leak in Odisha’s Jajpur District

In the Jajpur district of Odisha, a cooking gas cylinder took fire after a leak, injuring five individuals, two of them were women, police said on Tuesday.

On Monday, the event took place in the district’s Badabiruhan village. After receiving first treatment at the public hospital on Jajpur Road, the two ladies who suffered serious burn injuries were sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Locals claim that on Monday afternoon, while Kamalakanta Swain of Badabiruhan Village was attaching the regulator to a recently arrived cylinder, it began to leak and catch fire from a light set for puja.

Kamalakanta, his wife Sarita, and his daughter-in-law Madhusmita all suffered burn wounds as a consequence of the fire accident.

Two of their neighbors who had hurried to the scene to rescue the wounded after hearing the victims’ cries also suffered burn injuries, according to the locals.

While Kamalakanta and his two neighbors suffered only minor burn wounds, his wife and daughter-in-law, who were both wearing sarees, suffered serious wounds.

All five wounded people were saved by locals, who then hurried them to the Jajpur Road government hospital. Later, once their health worsened, Sarita and Madhusmita were sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Panikoili police have arrived at the scene and have begun an investigation after being notified.
