Following a confrontation with farmers in Rajasansi, the BJP performs rallies without incident

Taranjit Singh Sandhu of the BJP experienced protests on a few times when conducting his campaign in rural regions, but he was able to hold two successful public rallies today in the Majitha and Attari seats without any such incidents.

He encountered opposition at a community in Ajnala on April 6 and in Rajasansi on May 15. Certain parts of the district have a substantial concentration of Kisan Union cadres, or there are powerful local figures present to oppose the BJP candidate. Otherwise, it seems that there is little animosity between the farming community and any one candidate. The leaders of the Kisan union said that the BJP events were often organized in rural regions by non-agrarian populations or agricultural laborers. They said that since it would help the BJP, rural “caste politics” is something that farmer leaders do not want to engage in.

In the meantime, the district election office requested that the official apparatus refrain from allowing farmer organizations to interrupt political events in order to provide an even playing field for all candidates. The BJP’s public gatherings are being watched over by a large police presence. Samyukt Kisan Morcha members approached BJP candidate Taranjit Singh Sandhu’s rally site on Wednesday in Bhindi Saidan village, adjacent to Rajasansi, despite the police presence. Farmers were prevented from entering the rally pandal, nevertheless, by the police stationed there. A 15-foot-wide road separated the BJP officials and farmers where they staged separate events.

Sandhu said that the demonstrations were being led by entrenched forces. He argued that these demonstrations did not include real farmers. He said that the Kisan Samman Nidhi and other programmes introduced by the BJP have benefited farmers in a number of ways.

He said that certain people were attempting to harm the BJP in order to boost other political parties in elections. Sandhu promised to keep interacting with many facets of society. According to Sandhu, he meets sincere farmers every day who value the Modi government’s attempts to raise their standard of living.

Farmer union activists asserted that while they do not wish to engage in conflict with the BJP, they do wish to confront its leaders about matters like the murder of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri, the closing of borders to prevent farmers from accessing Delhi, the use of pellet guns and tear gas on farmers, and the use of excessive force against peaceful protestors.

Kirti Kisan Union’s Jatinder Singh Chinna said, “What is wrong if we come to the BJP rally venue? We could have questioned Sandhu about the problems we were having. The BJP has broken the Constitution more than any other party. Farmers will keep posing questions to the BJP contenders. The saffron party candidates will still be the target of action.
