Ghulam Nabi Azad: Immediately restore statehood

Ghulam Nabi Azad, the chairman of the DPAP, said on Monday that Jammu and Kashmir should regain their statehood as soon as the assembly elections are conducted in the Union territory.

“Restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood is a commitment made in parliament by the prime minister and the home minister. At a gathering in the 75-kilometer-distance Aishmuqam region of the Anantnag district, Azad said, “We had insisted that it should be done before the assembly elections, but the government said they will do it after the assembly elections.”

The administration has not said when statehood would be restored, according to the former chief minister, thus it should happen right away after the elections. It may be sometime after the elections. But it needs to be finished right now,” he said.

Azad said that PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Kashmir later this week was long overdue. The PM travels to different regions of the nation. It was time for him to visit Kashmir; last week (last month), he traveled to Jammu. I shall ask the PM to execute the tasks that the local government is unable to do. To guarantee there is no energy shortage in Jammu and Kashmir, he said, “I would like to request the establishment of two thermal power projects, one in each of the regions of Jammu and Kashmir, with a total generation capacity of 4,000 MW.”
