Heatwave in Odisha: Residents are urged not to go outside between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m

The Mayurbhanj government on Thursday recommended residents not to leave their houses between 11 am and 3 pm due to the extreme heat that is now in the area.

At 12 p.m. that day, Baripada registered 42 degrees Celsius. Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde instructed divisional forest officers (DFOs) and temple priests to bar tourists from entering shrines and public areas, with the exception of Similipal National Park, during peak hours in order to protect people from heat-related ailments like sunstroke.

The collector also gave the chief district veterinary officer and representatives of the Forest Department instructions on what has to be done to guarantee that animals have access to water. Additionally, the district administration set up extra water tanks to give water to places where it is scarce.

In the meanwhile, more beds have been added for sunstroke patients at PRM MCH and other medical facilities. In addition, Shinde said that “jal chhatras” had been erected at bus stops, bus terminals, and along highways to provide drinking water to onlookers. She also added that women’s self-help organizations will be organized in the jal chhatras to supply water to people.
