In its second warning in two months, the CRPF tells Jawans not to post complaints about the force on social media

Observing that jawans were sharing their issues and worries on social media, the CRPF has sent out its second warning in as many months, requesting that they refrain from voicing their complaints in public.

In over two months, the military has issued two orders addressing issues pertaining to social media. The fact that DG CRPF Anish Dayal discussed the matter on his most recent visit to Manipur indicates how important it is.

According to a recent letter, the officer said that posting department-related material on social media exposes different CRPF workplaces to security risks.

“DG CRPF brought up a concern about the usage of social media in matters connected to different departmental problems during his visit to Manipur. According to a correspondence, “such careless information sharing exposes various CRPF establishments to security threats and causes significant damage to the organization’s image,” an official told News18.

“He has urged everyone to stop acting in such an unreasonable manner, since it reflects poorly on the force. The top brass has requested that all staff members be made aware of the need to cease disclosing internal CRPF affairs on social media in order to prevent such careless behavior, the source said.

According to sources, postings in which jawans have disclosed specifics about problems they are having in various deployments—including during elections—have not pleased the high brass.

The CRPF requested in writing in February that the force refrain from posting images and videos on social media. Another CRPF officer quoted the February letter and said, “It has been noticed that sometimes, we use such photos, videos, or informative content in our social media posts, which may reveal CRPF’s deployments, tactics, resources, etc., and which may be used by adversaries to harm the force.”

CRPF has already written on the use of social media postings. “It has come to notice that force personnel are taking recourse to social media platforms to vent their personal grievances, which is in violation of CCS Conduct Rules 1964 and may attract disciplinary action,” the CRPF said in another letter sent out last year.

The CRPF requested in August that officers avoid interacting with strangers on social media because they may be tricked by someone using a honeypot.

It has been noted that CRPF employees are using social media to make friends with strangers and share images and videos of themselves when they are in uniform. Consequently, it is the competent authority’s wish that all units/offices make sure that the employees under their supervision do not upload images or videos of themselves in uniform on social media. Make sure you strictly abide by social network rules, and avoid adding friends without first confirming their identity. According to an official letter, all staff members may also be reminded that disobeying these instructions may result in severe disciplinary action against the offending individual.
