Keralan lady, 20, passes away after eating prawn curry

The lady, 20, from Ambalapara, near Ottapalam, died late on Sunday night. She was sent to a private hospital in Thodupuzha on Saturday due to respiratory problems she had after eating prawn stew.

Relatives and neighbors claim that on Friday, Nikhitha N, the deceased—the daughter of Nellikkunnath Gopalakrishnan and Nisha—accidentally ate a little bit of prawn stew from her paid guest lodging in Thodupuzha.

Nikitha had been employed for the previous seven months at a retail chain of optical prescription eyeglasses in Thodupuzha. She was living in a PG hostel with her friends and coworkers. Nikhitha had a prawn allergy. On Friday, however, she unintentionally ate a little bit from the hostel. On Saturday morning, she started feeling uneasy and was taken to a private hospital. A close relative who wished to remain anonymous said, “Her condition deteriorated late on Saturday night, and the hospital authorities stated that her blood pressure dropped too low, resulting in cardiac arrest.”

After traveling to Thodupuzha on Saturday, Nikhitha’s parents filed a complaint with the local police, charging the hospital administration of medical malpractice. According to family, Nikhitha’s corpse was brought on Monday morning to the Kottayam Medical College for post-mortem examinations. On Monday night, the corpse was taken to her ancestral home.

Tuesday morning will see the execution of the last ceremonies. Jishnu, Nikhitha’s younger brother, attends Coimbatore University.
