Mahua Moitra Leaves Delhi Bungalow After Being Expelled From Lok Sabha Last Month

New Delhi: Today, Mahua Moitra, the leader of the Trinamool Congress, who was kicked out of the Lok Sabha last month for unethical behavior, will leave her government house. Earlier last week, the Bengal MP got an eviction notice directing her to leave the home right now.

The Center sent Ms. Moitra a harshly worded eviction notice demanding that she leave the cottage right now. The Directorate of Estates, which oversees government assets, sent out a letter stating that Ms. Moitra and any other occupants “are liable to be evicted from the said premises, if need be, by the use of such force as may be necessary” if she does not leave on her own.

Ms. Moitra was “allowed sufficient opportunity,” according to the government’s notification, but she was unable to provide evidence that she is not an unauthorized tenant.

The Delhi High Court directed Ms. Moitra to leave the government home and refused to suspend the eviction order on Thursday, but she was not granted any respite.

According to Justice Girish Kathpalia, no particular regulation addressing the removal of Members of Parliament from official housing upon their resignation as legislators has been presented before the court.

On December 8 of last year, Mahua Moitra was found guilty of “unethical conduct” and banished from the Lok Sabha for reportedly receiving gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani and giving him access to her user name and password for the Parliament website.
