Meghalaya: Two people are detained after a little boy’s corpse is purportedly discarded in a yard

In the Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya, a 10-year-old child was slain, and his corpse was disposed of in a house’s garden, police said on Friday.

According to the police, the event happened on February 18 of last week in the Umtyngar hamlet. It is believed that the youngster was killed for stealing a bottle of alcohol.

Following the discovery of a small boy’s dead corpse in the yard of Comand Nongran, a resident of Umtyngar village, on February 19, one Shynsharlang Nonghyndah notified the police, who then filed a first information report at the Patharkhmah police station, according to the police.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Jagpal Singh Dhanoa of Ri-Bhoi confirmed the occurrence and said that the youngster who died went missing on February 17. A cognizable complaint was filed under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code in relation to this incident.

After a thorough questioning of Banshngai Tyngsong (age 28) and Pynshailang Warjri (age 32), two Umtyngar locals, it was discovered that the youngster had spent the evening of February 17 at one of the suspects’ sheds.

The victim attempted to flee the next morning with a bottle of alcohol that belonged to one of the accused. According to the SP, Tyngsong and his accomplice Warjri followed the youngster and, in a fit of rage, beat and suffocated him with a sack, causing his death around his face.

The Dhanoa said that they then concealed the corpse next to a woodland and waited until dusk to move it to a nearby resident’s yard. They also said, “that a recreation of the crime scene will be carried out for the perpetrators to reveal the whole sequence of the crime.”

According to the SP, the accused were brought before a Nongpoh local court, which sentenced them to five days of police detention.
