Mizoram Assembly Polls: The state is preparing for a conflict among MNF, ZPM, and Congress

Tuesday marked the start of the Mizoram Assembly elections; the results will be tallied on December 3.

On Tuesday, the voting will start at 7 a.m. and go until 3 p.m.

There are 174 contenders in the running.

The CEO of Mizoram states that there are 8,51,895 voters in the state overall. 4,12,969 of them are men, 4,38,925 are women, and there is just one (one) third gender. In Mizoram, there are 4,973 service voters overall.

There are 50,611 first-time voters in the 18–19 age range. In Mizoram, the voter sex ratio is 1,063. The ratio of electoral population (EP) is 63.27. There are 1276 voting places in total, 525 of which are located in urban regions and 751 in rural ones.

For the Mizoram Assembly elections, 2,058 votes have been cast at home and 7,497 votes have been sent in by postal ballot at approved facilitation centers.

The only state with an upcoming election where neither the Congress nor the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are the front-runners is the 40-member state legislature.

With a vote share of 37.8%, the Mizo National Front (MNF) won 26 seats in the 2018 assembly elections, overthrowing the Congress administration, which had ruled the region for ten years.

Unexpectedly, the regional party that placed second in the 2018 elections, the Zoram Peoples Movement (ZPM), won eight seats. Many consider it to be the primary opponent of the governing party.

In the 2018 assembly elections, the BJP won one seat while the Congress won five, giving the former its first seat in the northeastern state.

Despite being a member of the BJP-led National Democratic partnership (NDA), the MNF has not attempted to form a pre-election partnership with its state counterpart. BJP is running for 23 seats. It has run in 39 constituencies in 2018.

Re-election is being sought by incumbent Chief Minister Zoramthanga, who is also the head of the Mizo National Front party, from the Aizawl East I seat. Chief Lalswata of the State Congress is involved, representing the Aizawl West 3 seat. The president and creator of the Zoram Nationalist Party, Lalduhoma, is a contender for the Serchhip seat.
