Modi regime red violence is down 52%, according to Amit Shah

NEW DELHI: Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday that the country’s Left-wing extremism-related violence has decreased by 52% and fatalities by 69% between 2004–14 and 2014–2023. He attributed this to the Modi government’s “holistic approach,” which combines an offensive strategy against Naxalism with a push for development in impacted areas.

Shah added that Naxalism is “breathing its last” on X in a number of postings, citing the body blow inflicted by security forces.

An accompanying video enumerated the elements of this plan, including strong information gathering capabilities, a crackdown on Naxal financing, addressing of sympathisers or “urban Naxals,” concentrated and coordinated action by state and federal troops, and aggressive legal action in Naxal-related cases.
Shah said, “Modi govt has won hearts of the poor living in Naxalism-affected areas by building adequate healthcare and education infrastructure” . He said that locals’ confidence had been won as a result of the PM’s “visionary policies” to combat Naxalism, which were carried out with the cooperation of state governments. “Left-wing extremism has lost its breeding ground,” he said.
Home ministry statistics shows that from 2004–14 and 2014–23, there was a 52% decrease in violence and a 69% decrease in mortality associated with left-wing extremism. Deaths from Left-wing extremism decreased to 1,868 from 6,035, while incidences associated with it decreased to 7,128 from 14,862. Security force fatalities from Naxal assaults or confrontations decreased by 72% to 485 in 2014–23 from 1,750 in 2004–14, while civilian fatalities decreased by 68% to 1,383 from 4,285 in the same time.
Police stations reporting violence dropped to 176 from 465 over this time, while the number of districts in the nation reporting left-wing extremist violence declined by 53%, from 96 in 2010 to 45 in 2022.
Shah shared videos demonstrating the establishment of over 5,000 post offices in 90 districts afflicted by Naxalism, the opening of 1,298 bank branches and 1,348 ATMs in 30 of the most impacted districts, the construction of 4,885 mobile towers at an estimated cost of Rs 2,690 crore, and the construction of 9,356km of roads at an estimated cost of Rs 10,718 crore. By establishing 121 Eklavya residential schools, 43 ITIs, and 38 skill development centers, the community is involving its young.
