Naxalite Killed In Bijapur Interaction, Rifle Taken

A senior police officer said that a Naxalite was slain in a Tuesday morning encounter with security troops in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.

According to Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj P, the confrontation took place at approximately 6 am in a forest close to Bandepara village inside the boundaries of Madded police station, when a combined team of members from various security services was out on an anti-Naxal operation.

Personnel from the District Reserve Guard, Bastar Fighter, both state police units, Special Task Force, and the 170th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) started the operation.

According to the official, they had information that prominent Naxalites, including Madded Area Committee of Maoists Chairman Nagesh, Secretary Buchanna, Member Vishwanath, and 15 to 20 armed cadres, were present in the Koranjed-Bandepara jungles.

He said that once the shooting ceased, a Naxalite’s corpse and an AK-47 gun were found nearby.

The official said that the identity of the slain Naxalite had not yet been determined and that searches were still being conducted in the neighborhood.

On November 7, voting will take place in the first phase of the Chhattisgarh elections in 20 assembly districts.
