North India feels the shocks of a 5.6-magnitude earthquake that strikes Nepal

The National Centre for Seismology said that on Monday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 hit west Nepal and caused powerful vibrations to be felt in several areas of north India.

It said that the earthquake’s epicenter was located in Uttar Pradesh, 233 kilometers north of Ayodhya.

People were so alarmed by the earthquake that many in Delhi and the National Capital Region reported violently shaking their furniture.

Images of individuals running out of residential buildings were posted by a number of social media users.

A strong 6.4 magnitude earthquake, the worst since 2015, rocked Nepal on Friday night, destroying hundreds of homes in the remote mountainous part of the Himalayan country, leaving at least 157 dead and over 160 wounded.

Nepal is particularly susceptible to earthquakes since it is located in one of the world’s most active tectonic zones (seismic zones IV and V).
