Odisha Governor Raghubar Das implores CM to address locals’ concerns in Angul and Dhenkanal

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been encouraged by Governor Raghubar Das to address some of the problems that the people of the Angul and Dhenkanal districts are facing as soon as possible. In a letter, the governor brought up difficulties he discovered during his recent travel to the two districts and called the chief minister’s attention to them. He described the experience as humble as he encountered individuals from many walks of life who had varied concerns about them. He wrote, “The state government may kindly consider the issues for appropriate action.”

Das visited the regions of Angul and Dhenkanal from December 5 to 7. In the Dhenkanal district, the Governor went to an elderly home in Joranda that is managed by the Maharshi Dayanand Seva Mission. There are now twenty-five senior residents of the old age home. The Mission wants the property on which the home is located registered in its favor so that it may house additional people and provide the prisoners access to basic amenities.

When he visited the Turang panchayat in the Banarpal block of Angul, ASHA representatives asked the government to build a “Mamata Gruha” where expectant mothers may get health checks and counseling.

The Governor also spoke about how the residents of Kandhaberini alerted him to the contamination of the air and water resulting from Mahanadi Coalfields Limited’s (MCL) mining activities, and how this was negatively affecting the health of the villagers. The governor was also made aware by the locals of the significant damage that the elephant threat in the area was causing to crops and property.

Das also asked the chief minister to step in and help the Baji Rout hostel in Hakimpara, Angul, which is home to 178 girls and boys.He said, “The hostel needs a lot of resources to run smoothly because it is an entirely independent institution.”
