Om Birla Calls For Peace, Says Manipur Incidents “Pain Us All”

Om Birla, the speaker of the Lok Sabha, appealed for peace in Manipur on Saturday, describing the occurrences the state has seen since the start of the turmoil on May 3 as “painful.”

He said during a meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), India Region, held at the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly that development in the state and region can only come through peace.

Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya, Harivansh, the deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Thomas A. Sangma, the speaker of the Megalaya Assembly, and Pasang D. Sona, the speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, are among the luminaries present at the meeting. The meeting is also being attended by MLAs from Meghalaya and MPs from northeastern states.

“I have been saddened by all the horrible things that have transpired lately. They do harm to all of us. The road of peace should be followed by all members of society, all states, and the whole nation. The restoration of peace should be our collective goal, Birla remarked.

When questioned about the situation in Manipur, he said, “These incidents are very sad and pain us all.” “Our actions shouldn’t harm anybody. This has to be our focus. It is our moral obligation as a society.

According to Birla, the nation, all of its states, and all of its social groupings must pursue peace.

He remarked, “All of us should work toward the establishment of peace.” “Therefore, from the perspective of humanity, we call for peace.”

Since May 3, there has been ethnic violence in the northeastern state of Manipur, which has so far resulted in the deaths of more than 160 people.

The Lok Sabha Speaker stated in a subsequent interview with media on the grounds of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Complex that the delegates expressed worry over the state of affairs in Manipur and asked for working together to bring about peace.

“We all want peace and humanity. Happiness and riches flow from peace, Birla told reporters. “All the Speakers of legislative assemblies appealed for peace,” he said.

The Lok Sabha Speaker opened the 20th annual conference of the CPA-India Region when he was in Shillong.

The four-day conference will discuss natural catastrophe challenges and management solutions with a focus on the northeast area.

The delegates will also talk about the need for regional connections to bring India’s northeastern area up to par with the rest of the nation.

During the conference’s opening, Biswajit Daimary, speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, was also present.
