72 POs are detained in Amritsar ahead of the Lok Sabha election, according to the DIG

In a special operation conducted in advance of the Lok Sabha election, 72 proclaimed offenders (POs) have been apprehended over the last ten days by four police districts located inside the border area.

Rakesh Kaushal, the DIG of the border range, which includes the police departments of Amritsar rural, Batala, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot, stated that the Punjab Police have launched various campaigns to apprehend criminal elements and miscreants who could cause trouble during polls in order to conduct a free and fair election.

H stated a special search was in progress to find POs who had been eluding capture over an extended period of time. According to him, four police districts’ senior superintendents of police were urged to make PO arrests. “In the last ten days, we have arrested 72 POs and received overwhelming results,” he said.

In a similar vein, 34 drug dealers have been detained by the police, and they have also found 2.5 kg of charas, 1.6 kilogram of heroin, 36.5 kg of poppy husk, Rs 1.28 lakh in cash, and two firearms in their hands.

1,189 liters of illegal liquor and 9,180 kg of lahan, the raw material used to make illicit booze, were confiscated as part of a push against bootlegging, which resulted in the arrest of 82 persons.

The DIG said, “In addition, the police have taken nine people into custody in four different incidents and found five pistols (four.32 bore and one 9mm), four magazines, and fourteen bullets from them.”

Regarding the placement of licensed firearms, more than 82% of the weapons were placed in the four police districts. 42,638 of the 51,711 weapons in total were placed with the corresponding police stations or gun houses, according to Kaushal.

In order to take early legal action against them and prevent any unfortunate incidents, the police have requested the locals to collaborate with them and provide any trustworthy information on drug or illegal liquor producers or sellers as well as other anti-social elements.
