On the first day, no wheat arrived at any of the 23 purchasing centers in the Karnal area

On April 1, the first day of wheat procurement, there was no recorded delivery of wheat at any of the district’s 23 purchasing centers. This season, the district government expects about 8 lakh metric tons (MT) to arrive, up from 7.8 lakh MT last season, for which it has made all the necessary preparations.

Experts in agriculture say that wheat harvesting has not yet begun. They said that the recent drop in temperature over the previous several days was the reason for the three- to four day delay.

The harvesting timetable has suffered as a result of the abrupt drop in temperature. Three to four more days will be needed for harvesting, according to Dr. Wazir Sigh, Deputy Director of Agriculture (DDA). He insisted that almost 3.8 lakh acres had been confirmed for wheat production based on data from the “Mera Fasal, Mera Byora.” A yield of 23 quintals per acre on average has been collected by the department.

After giving their crop a thorough washing, he recommended farmers to bring it in and make sure the grains were sufficiently dried. He said that attempts were underway to resolve the problems farmers were having with their data on the e-kharid site not being updated. He said that the site is being maintained by the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB) to solve the problems. According to Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Akhil Pilani, there hasn’t been any news of wheat coming at any of the district’s 23 purchasing centers. “We’ve finished getting ready for the purchase. Our priorities would be purchase and quick lifting so that the farmers have no problems, according to ADC Pilani.
