PM Modi: After decades, elections are held in J&K without fear of terrorism or cross-border fire

The next Lok Sabha elections will take place in Jammu and Kashmir without the threat of terrorism, strikes, stone-pelting, or cross-border gunfire, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on Friday.

In his speech to an Udhampur poll rally, Modi said he had kept his word to end the long suffering of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He also issued a challenge to the Congress and other opposition parties to reinstate Article 370 of the Constitution, which the BJP-led Centre had repealed in August 2019.

The rally was held in favor of Union minister Jitendra Singh, who is running for a hat-trick of election wins from the Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency, at the Modi ground along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.

Elections are held in Udhampur on April 19.

Choudhary Lal Singh has been nominated by the Congress, while G M Saroori has been nominated by the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP).

“I have spent the previous fifty years visiting Jammu and Kashmir. I recall the 1992 Ekta Yatra, which unfurled the tricolour at Lal Chowk, the central plaza in Srinagar. We were made to feel quite welcome. After praying at the Vaishno Devi temple in 2014, I spoke to a group of people here and promised to release those who had endured years of suffering (because of terrorism).”

“With your blessings, Modi has delivered on that promise today. This election is taking place devoid of the long-standing concerns about terrorism, separatism, stone-throwing, strikes, and cross-border terrorism, all of which were formerly election-related problems. The security of the Vaishno Devi and Amarnath pilgrimages was formerly a source of anxiety, but the prime minister said that things have completely changed in terms of security, Jammu and Kashmir is developing, and public confidence in the government is growing.

At an Uttarakhand electoral rally, the prime minister claimed that the “strong” Modi government had eliminated terrorists on their own land.
With reference to the repeal of Article 370, he remarked that “they cannot do it” in reference to the Congress and other opposition parties’ attempts to restore the controversial constitutional clause.

“Please have faith in me; I will solve the issues that have plagued Jammu and Kashmir for the last 60 years. In the last ten years, Jammu and Kashmir has seen a total transformation, thus I have kept my pledge,” he said.

In an effort to win over supporters for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates Singh (of Udhampur) and Jugal Kishore (of Jammu), Modi said that the goal of the approaching election is to install a powerful central administration that is capable of tackling the nation’s problems head-on.
