Political leaders are perplexed by KCR’s silence about her daughter’s arrest

Discussions in party circles have focused on BRS president and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s silence about his daughter K Kavitha’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate for her suspected involvement in the Delhi liquor scam. president Minister A Revanth Reddy called Kavitha’s detention a BJP political ploy, but instead of responding, the BRS president opted to remain silent, surprising all the political establishment.

The arrest of Kavitha and the defection of MPs and an MLA have severely damaged the BRS cadre’s morale and might have an impact on the party’s chances in the next Lok Sabha elections. However, KCR’s unusual quiet has left the party leaders in turmoil. According to reports, he called a meeting as the ED searched Kavitha’s home and hurried to support his daughter morally by sending his son, BRS working president KT Rama Rao, and his nephew, T Harish Rao.

Some politicians have explained this unusual quiet by claiming that KCR is preoccupied with negotiating with well-known Delhi attorneys in order to save his daughter. The largest task of his political career, preventing his party leaders from defecting, is said to be on his plate. There are currently five MPs and one MLA who have left the BRS, and more are said to be intending to do the same in the near future.

KCR is reportedly having restless nights over Revanth’s threats to destroy the Pink Party and his declaration that the Congress is open to BRS MLAs.

It’s also said that KCR was concerned by the resignation of incumbent MPs who were guaranteed a party ticket to run again from their own segments in the next Lok Sabha elections. It will be very difficult for the troubled BRS leader to gain a significant number of LS seats.

Important BRS members are facing further difficulties as the Congress administration is looking into their involvement in the phone tapping incident that occurred during the Assembly elections.

The BRS supremo is reportedly preoccupied with all of these concerns and has little time to speak publicly, according to a senior leader and former minister. Right now, KCR is primarily concerned with keeping Kavitha safe and making sure the BRS does well in the LS elections. Given that the phone tapping issue involves authorities, he is reportedly not giving it much thought.

Two of the party’s most important figures, KTR and Harish Rao, have been camping in Delhi and are anticipated to remain there till Kavitha receives relief from the Supreme Court, where she has filed a contempt case contesting the ED’s detention.

In the next days, the public and political leaders will be focusing on how KCR, a cunning and determined leader who successfully led Telangana to statehood and controlled the region for ten years, would approach these difficulties.

The BRS is seriously threatened by defections, but KCR lacks the moral standing to object to the Congress’ decision to allow leaders of the opposition party to join it, given that he personally orchestrated the defection of 12 Congress MLAs in 2018 despite the party’s victory of 88 Assembly seats.
