Poll knot: A Delhi lawyer marries a Bihar life inmate, and the pair asks Lalu’s permission

In the early hours of Wednesday, a 62-year-old life prisoner from Bihar married a 46-year-old lady from Delhi in a temple close to Patna in order to pursue a political party’s Lok Sabha ticket for his just wedded spouse.

At the renowned Jagdamba temple near Bakhtiyarpur in Patna during “kharmas,” (an auspicious month), Ashok Mahto, a major conspirator of the infamous Nawada jailbreak of 2002, married Kumari Anita. Neeraj Pandey based his crime thriller web series “Khakee D Bihar Chapter” on this jailbreak.

Following that, the pair went to the home of RJD president Lalu Prasad and his former chief minister wife, Rabri Devi, to ask for their permission. Anita’s opponent is probably going to be JD(U) MP from Munger and former president Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh. She worked for a private corporation after graduating from Delhi University’s legal program.

Speaking for the RJD, Chitranjan Gagan revealed that when she was employed in New Delhi, she had ties to the organization. When allocating tickets, our party will give precedence to women based on winnability. He said, “She (Anita) could take advantage of it.

On December 10, 2023, Mahto was allowed to leave prison after serving a 17-year sentence in 2001. After he was released from jail, he had met Lalu.

Although Mahto had stated his desire to run for office, sources close to him said that since he was a prisoner serving a term, he was unable to do so.

Mahto wanted to remarry, and he picked Anita since he had lost his first wife while incarcerated.

Mahto, a resident of Konanpur hamlet in the Nawada district, rose to fame in 1990 when he and Akhilesh Singh got into a caste fight. The gang war has been going on for ten years, and dozens of people have died in it on both sides. Aruna Devi, the wife of Akhilesh, Mahto’s fiercest competitor, is a JD(U) MLA from Warisaliganj in the Nawada district.

In 2005, his name was reportedly connected to the murder of Rajo Singh, a former Congress MP.
