Protesters want a raise in pension benefits

The Joint Action Committee members have insisted that the government either respond to their requests or be prepared to pay a price for not doing so. They have been conducting a protest for the last three weeks and started a relay fast in front of the mini-secretariat.

In the state, there are around 3.25 lakh retirees and 3 lakh government workers. The retiring workers said that they may have a significant influence on how the next elections turn out, together with their families.

They want an increase in the basic pension of five, ten, and fifteen percent when they reach the ages of seventy-five, seventy-seven, and seventy-five, respectively. In addition, they want cashless healthcare, a raise in medical benefits from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000 per month, a decrease in the time needed to recover from a commutation from 15 to 12 years, and the discharge of 18 months’ worth of dearness allowance arrears related to the Covid-19 era.
