Rajasthan trucking accident results in 12 fatalities and one arrest

According to authorities, a truck collided with a private bus that was stopped on the Jaipur-Agra national highway-21 in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan on Wednesday, resulting in at least 12 deaths from Gujarat and 15 injuries. The truck driver was subsequently detained.

The bus carrying 57 people was traveling from Gujarat to Mathura in Uttar Pradesh when the incident allegedly occurred about 5 am on Wednesday. The wounded were sent to the neighborhood’s Raj Bahadur Memorial Hospital.

In a related event, leaders including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot sent their condolences for the catastrophe.

Ram Avatar, a station house officer at Lakhanpur Police Station, provided information on the disaster to news agency PTI, stating that the bus had to halt 20 kilometers from the district headquarters in Hantara Village because its “diesel pipe was damaged.”

A few passengers then followed the driver as he exited the bus to inspect the issue, the officer said. During this period, “a speeding truck coming from the Jaipur side rammed into the stationary bus from its rear side,” according to a government source with knowledge of the incident.

At least 12 persons, including five men and seven women, died instantly as a result of the incident. According to the SHO, fifteen individuals were injured and sent to the hospital. The SHO said, “The passengers who had down with the driver were uninjured in the collision.

The police said that the first investigation revealed that “the driver was speeding and lost control of the truck, resulting in the accident.”After leaving the scene of the collision, the alleged truck driver was eventually apprehended.

The SHO announced the arrest and said, “The offender was captured about 35 kilometers distant from the accident site. The truck that was in the collision has been impounded. A case has been opened under the appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code as a result of a complaint lodged at the Lakhanpur police station against the accused. The SHO said that the “probe is still underway into the matter” and declined to reveal the identification of the accused. The corpses of the dead were sent to a morgue, the police said, adding that the wounded were being treated at a hospital in Bharatpur.

President Droupadi Murmu posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express her sorrow over the incident: “I am deeply saddened by the news of a bus full of devotees traveling from Gujarat to Uttar Pradesh, meeting with an accident and the death of many passengers in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. I offer my sympathies to the relatives of the deceased and hope the wounded people recover quickly.

In the meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed regret for the “loss of lives” and authorized an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh to the surviving family members and Rs. 50,000 to the wounded.

The Prime Minister expressed his condolences for the “loss of lives” and authorized an ex-gratia payment from the PMNRF (Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund) of Rs. 2 lakh per person for the surviving family members of those who perished in the accident in Bharatpur. The wounded will get 50,000 apiece, according to a post on the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO)’s official ‘X’ account. Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan, expressed sorrow over the fatalities and said that “police and administration officials are on the scene” and that “the injured have been taken to the hospital for treatment.”

He said, “The death of 12 devotees, who had traveled to Bharatpur on a religious pilgrimage from Gujarat, during the collision between a bus and a trailer is extremely sad,” in a post published on X in Hindi. The wounded have been brought to the hospital for treatment, and police and administration are on the scene. I want God to provide all the deceased’s souls serenity and their families strength. May God grant each and every wounded person a quick recovery.

Jagdeep Dhankhar, the vice president, also expressed his sorrow over the situation. Dhankhar wrote on the social networking site ‘X’ using his official name, “Deeply pained by the news of the unfortunate road tragedy in Bharatpur, Rajasthan. I offer my sympathies to the relatives of the deceased and hope that everyone who was hurt will heal quickly.
