Rajesh Das, a former IPS officer, was found guilty in Tamil Nadu of harassing a female officer sexually

In Tamil Nadu, ADGP Rajesh Das, a former IPS officer, was found guilty and given a sentence on Friday in a sexual harassment case.

He was fined Rs 10,000 by the court in addition to receiving a three-year jail term. at response to a complaint made by a young female police officer at the beginning of 2021, he was accused of sexual harassment.

LiveLaw said that the female officer had complained to the Director General of Police in Chennai, claiming that on February 21, 2021, the Special DGP had sexually harassed her while doing his official duties. Following that, CBCID filed a FIR for violations of Sections 354A(2), 341, 506(1) of the IPC and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, 1998 against the Special DGP and Superintendent of Police, Chengalpet.

The Madras High Court turned down Das’ request to bring the complainant back and cross-examine her in April of this year. The event, which affected the female officers of the Tamil Nadu Police Force, was described as “shocking” and “monstrous” by the court.

Following the court’s remark, the AIADMK administration suspended Das and formed a six-member committee to look into the matter. Das also appealed his service ban to the Central Administrative Tribunal in 2021. According to LiveLaw, he said that the charges of sexual harassment were false and that they were fabricated to keep him from being promoted.

As the then-leader of the opposition, MK Stalin, promised if elected to power that there would be appropriate legal procedure and punishment, this subject became a hot topic during state elections in 2021.
