Regarding the teachers’ strike, AIADMK leader D Jayakumar said, “Stalin is acting like a dictator”

With regard to the detention of teachers who have been protesting for equal pay and permanent jobs for more than a week in Chennai against the state government, senior AIADMK leader and former Tamil Nadu minister D Jayakumar on Thursday poked fun at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, saying that Stalin is “behaving like a dictator” and that his action is “against democracy.”

According to government order, the police arrested the teachers who have been protesting for the previous nine days in Chennai. The DMK pledged before the election to provide TET exam-passing teachers employment, however this commitment has not yet been carried out. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is acting antithetically to democracy and acting in an Idi Amin-like manner, Jayakumar said.

“The CM has on many occasions proudly stated that their DMK government has fulfilled 100% of their election promises, but today’s arrests are just an example of their unfulfilled election promises,” Jayakumar said as he criticized Stalin.

He continued by saying, “All these actions will be reflected in the upcoming elections against them (DMK).”

Jayakumar went on to say, “In the upcoming TN Assembly session, our leader, Edapadi Palanisami, will raise this issue concerning teachers.”

D Jayakumar, the leader and spokesperson for the AIADMK, met on Thursday with the teachers who had been arrested and held in a hall in Chennai Triplicane.

At the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) campus, teachers have been demonstrating.

Teachers are seeking equal compensation for equal labor, temporary teachers are wanting permanent positions, and candidates who passed the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2013 are requesting state government jobs.
