Renowned wheat scientist pays research institution a visit in Karnal

Today, the Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research (IIWBR) was visited by renowned wheat scientist Dr. Ravi P Singh. The Indian government has awarded the Padma Shri to Dr. Ravi, an adviser to CIMMYT, Mexico.

The facility was also visited by Dr. RS Paroda, a former secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and the former director general of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The director, Dr. Gyanendra Singh, greeted them. They were given a tour of the facilities, including seed production plots and field trials, by the director.

Dr. Singh was also congratulated by the institution on receiving the Padma Shri. “The fact that a wheat scientist who has helped develop over 700 varieties in about 140 countries was honored is a proud moment for the wheat research and farming fraternity,” the director said.

He continued by saying that Dr. Singh’s contribution to the worldwide wheat program is highly acknowledged.
