SC Requests CAQM Report on Actions Being Took to Control Air Pollution in Delhi-NCR

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court asked the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) for a report on the actions being done to reduce air pollution in and around Delhi.

A bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia took notice of senior attorney Aparajita Singh’s arguments on agricultural residue burning and the issue of air pollution during the winter months. Singh is helping the Supreme Court as an amicus curiae in the pollution case.

The court took notice of the amicus’ submission that these problems are before the CAQM and that she has raised the “serious problem” of air pollution with the impending winter months as well as agricultural residue burning.

The bench urged the CAQM to produce an immediate report on the actions being done to reduce air pollution in and around the city.

The subject has been set for a further hearing on October 31.
