Shashi Tharoor Hugely Applauds Modi Government For G20 Declaration

Congressman Shashi Tharoor praised the federal government for hosting the 18th G20 Summit in Delhi and praised the New Delhi Declaration as “unquestionably a diplomatic triumph for India.” He also commended the Narendra Modi-led national leadership for bringing about the New Delhi Declaration’s unanimity among all the participants. The Lok Sabha MP, however, criticized the administration for failing to invite the opposition to any G20 activities, including the Saturday night supper given by President Droupadi Murmu.

“The Delhi Declaration is without a doubt India’s diplomatic victory. It’s a good accomplishment because the general expectation prior to the G20 summit’s convening was that there wouldn’t be any consensus and that, as a result, a joint communique might not be feasible and that we might have to settle for a chairman’s summary, Tharoor told news agency ANI on Sunday.

In addition, Tharoor praised the nation’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar for their negotiations with Russia and China and successful conclusion of the “Delhi Declaration” negotiations.

“I would want to express my gratitude to Amitabh Kant, the G20 Sherpa, and our Foreign Minister for what they have accomplished for India. An exchange of this kind requires diplomatic skill. They both seem to have worked very hard. As reported by the news agency ANI, Tharoor said that one should give credit where credit is due.

Apart from the Chief Ministers of states where the opposition is in power, no opposition leader was invited to the President’s dinner for G20 representatives, according to the senior Congress politician. The Congress and the INDIA group of opposition parties both criticized this harshly.

“The opposition leader was not invited. Not even members of the relevant parliamentary committees that oversee foreign affairs were invited, much alone the opposition members of parliament. Nobody was invited to any of the gatherings or receptions, the Congress MP said, according to ANI.

Tharoor stated, “The Chief Ministers have duties for the states. Inviting the Chief Ministers of opposition-ruled states does make up for this omission. The opposition MPs and the leader of the opposition at the federal level are those who adhere to foreign and domestic policies.
