Six people perish when a boat overturns in Pune’s dam backwaters

Officials stated on Wednesday that six people—two of them were children—drowned when their boat overturned in the backwaters of the Ujani dam in the Pune district of Maharashtra. According to them, the event happened on Tuesday night after heavy rain and wind.

Three men, a woman, and two children were among the dead, according to Indapur tehsildar Shrikant Patil. According to him, there is a boat service between the villages of Bhugav and Kalashi.

The boat carrying seven people capsized on Tuesday night due to high winds and rain, he added. Among the seven people in the boat was an assistant police inspector-rank officer who, according to the source, swam to safety. With assistance from the local government and the NDRF, a search effort was under way, he added.
