Take Care! Accelerating above 80 km/h on Bengaluru’s airport route will now result in severe penalties

The traffic police have now increased their efforts to enhance road safety, notably on the Kempegowda International Airport Road, in response to the notable increase in traffic accidents in India’s tech capital. According to the most recent development, when new speed cameras were installed to monitor and apprehend offenders, drivers who violate the 80 kmph speed limit will now be subject to severe repercussions, including challans and fines.

On May 14, M.N. Anucheth, Joint Commissioner of Police (Bengaluru Traffic), said that the initiative’s main goal is to address the sharp rise in traffic accidents on the busy airport route, which is mostly caused by speeding. Speed trap cameras have been deployed to automatically identify and sanction over-speeding traffic infractions in order to improve road safety, according to Anucheth.

In Bengaluru, the airport stretch accounts for 9% of all accidents.

The airport route in the city was found to be one of the main accident-prone regions, accounting for almost 9% of all accidents in Bengaluru, prompting the government to severely enforce the speed restriction. It should be noticed that a lot of cars often go above the posted speed limits on the elevated highway (Bellari Road) that leads to Kempegowda International Airport.

Most vulnerable to accidents are riders and pedestrians: Report
According to the information provided, the most common times for accidents on this stretch of road are early in the morning (3 am to 6 am) and late at night (7 pm to 11 pm), with the most vulnerable groups being two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.

At the Hebbal flyover, there are two additional lanes.
Additionally, the Bengaluru Development Authority has started building the addition of two extra lanes to the Hebbal flyover in addition to the speed enforcement measures. This will prove to be a critical step in resolving traffic-related issues. However, the two spans of the KR Puram ramp that links to the main flyover are now restricted by this work, rendering it unusable until the project is finished.

During the Hebbal flyover construction, other routes will be used.
Travelers traveling via Mehkri Circle from Nagawara (Outer Ring Road) to the city: Proceed to Hebbal Circle under the flyover, turn right in the direction of Kodigehalli, do a U-turn to join the service road, and then continue on the circle in the direction of the city.

Use IOC-Mukunda Theater Road, the Lingarajapuram flyover route, and Nagawara-Tannery Road if you’re commuting from KR Puram to the city.

Hegdenagar-Thanisandra commuters: Access the city via the GKVK-Jakkur road.
For commuters heading from KR Puram to Yeswantpur, the route is as follows: go straight under the Hebbal flyover in the direction of BEL Circle, veer left at BEL Circle to the intersection of the Sadashivanagar police station, then take a right towards IISc and continue to Yeswantpur.
Travelers heading to the airport from the nearby regions and KR Puram, Hennur, HRBR Layout, Banasawadi, and KG Halli should use the Hennur-Bagalur Road.
