Protesters Meet Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, Discussion Begins in Wrestlers’ Protest Row

The protesting wrestlers are meeting with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur today amid the continuing controversy surrounding their protest against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

The protesting wrestlers had been asked by the authorities yesterday to continue discussions about their concerns.

Anurag Thakur, the sports minister, said in a tweet that the government was “willing to have a discussion with the wrestlers on their issues” after midnight on Tuesday.

“I have once again invited the wrestlers for the same,” he said.

The administration is open to talking with the wrestlers about their concerns.

The wrestlers have been invited for the same again by me.

According to media sources, the demonstrators lobbied for an early chargesheet against Brij Bhushan during the meeting at Amit Shah’s home, which lasted till midnight.

Sakshi Malik and others criticised the media for spreading false information as allegations about the wrestlers withdrawing from the demonstration circulated. Even though the wrestlers are now employed by the Railways, they vowed to continue supporting the protest.

A BJP MP named Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been the target of the wrestlers’ protests, and they have called for his arrest. He has been accused of sexually harassing certain female wrestlers.
