Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Governor of Telangana, has resigned and is expected to run for the Lok Sabha from Tamil Nadu

Tamilisai Soundararajan, the lieutenant governor of Puducherry and the governor of Telangana, resigned from both positions on Monday, according to reports. According to information obtained, Soundararajan, the head of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, is anticipated to run in the next Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP sources indicate that the sixty-two-year-old politician would probably run in the crucial elections from Tamil Nadu’s Chennai South seat.

In November 2019, Soundararajan took office as the second governor of Telangana state, which was still in its infancy. In February 2021, he was assigned additional responsibilities as the lieutenant governor of Puducherry.

The resignation of the Telangana governor coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state speech in Jagital.

According to an NDTV report, Soundararajan ran in the 2019 Lok Sabha election from the Thoothukudi seat in Tamil Nadu, which is now held by the governing DMK’s Kanimozhi.

She ran for the Chennai (North) seat in 2009 but was defeated by DMK candidate TKS Elangovan.

In addition, Soundararajan ran three times for the Tamil Nadu Assembly, losing each time to Radhapuram in 2006, Velachery in 2011, and Virugampakkam in 2016.

Discussions about the Telangana governor running in the elections have been going on for a day after the Election Commission of India’s announcement on Saturday of the votes’ seven-phase timetable.

June 4 is when the votes will be tallied.

The first phase of the elections is scheduled for April 19, followed by phases two and three on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1.
