Telangana: The director of W3 Hospitality receives a prison term for defying the court

K Nandu Kumar, the director of W3 Hospitality Services Pvt Ltd, was found guilty of contempt of court on Monday and was sentenced to one month of simple jail along with a fine of ~2,000 by Justice K Lakshman of the Telangana High Court. But Nandu Kumar was given a four-week reprieve from the punishment so he could file an appeal.

Actor Daggubati Venkatesh filed a contempt lawsuit after he was accused of wilfully and deliberately breaking an interim judgment dated August 10, 2021 that directed Venkatesh and W3 Hospitality Services to preserve the status quo with relation to building on a certain property.

Venkatesh said that W3 Hospitality Services, on behalf of Nandu Kumar, has filed a writ suit contesting the aforementioned property’s authorities’ activities. It was claimed that the corporation continued with construction operations in violation of the court order, despite the interim directive to preserve the status quo.

The petitioner’s claim was supported by evidence that the court discovered after reviewing the case’s facts and pertinent documentation.

Construction had in fact resumed after the interim injunction was issued, according to reports from the deputy city planner and the counter-file submitted by Nandu Kumar in the contempt case.

The court rejected Nandu Kumar’s attorney’s argument that the premises were seized on August 10, 2021, citing evidence to the contrary.
