The Ayodhya Bypass Project: PM GatiShakti encourages its execution and highlights its economic importance

The Ayodhya Bypass Project, which would increase connection to economic, social, and logistical hubs, including tourism and pilgrimage sites, throughout Lucknow, Basti, and Gonda districts, was sparked by PM GatiShakti.

The 52nd NPG conference considered the Ayodhya Bypass Project to be a key infrastructure project, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Friday. This greenfield project will span 67.57 kilometers and include all three districts.

It consists of building two 4/6 Lane Ayodhya Bypasses, one in the north measuring 35.40 km in length and the other in the south measuring 32.172 km.

According to the Ministry, the bypass will facilitate smooth transportation of people and goods and cut down on travel times to important national highways like NH-27, which connects Lucknow to Ayodhya and Gorakhpur; NH-330A, which runs through Raebareli to Ayodhya; NH-330, which runs through Sultanpur to Ayodhya and Gonda; and NH-135A, which runs through Akbarpur to Ayodhya.

The goal of this project is to improve multimodality by using integrated infrastructure, including airports and railway stations (at Ayodhya Airport, Sohwal Airport, A N Dev Nagar Airport, and Ayodhya Cantt Airport).

Notably, this project is intended to work in tandem with other suggested projects that have been discussed and evaluated in NPG meetings. These include the Prayagraj – Raebareli Project, which aims to build a 64.763 km long city bypass; the Gorakhpur – Siliguri Corridor, which will develop a project stretch from Gorakhpur to Siliguri; and the Gorakhpur – Bareilly Corridor, which will develop a project stretch from Gorakhpur to Rampur.

The city will gain from the project’s execution in a number of ways. The main commodities that come through the city include building materials; perishable foods like fish, dairy, and fruits and vegetables; manufactured products like leather, textile, plastic, and engineering goods; and other commodities like oil, gas, iron, steel, and wood.

Additionally, the project will provide 66.67 percent efficiency and a 5 km length reduction via peripheral connection. Reduction in travel time from 1.2 hours to 0.4 hours, increase in average speed from 40 km/h to 100 km/h, and creation of jobs.

The project will also assist the environment by reducing fuel use by 50 lakh liters yearly, reducing carbon footprints by 1 crore kg annually, and using recyclable and reusable materials to build 20 kilometers of infrastructure.

Due to Ayodhya’s location between two major economic centers, Lucknow and Gorakhpur, as well as the passing through of important commodities like leather, engineering goods, building materials, iron, and steel, the construction of this bypass route will allow for continuous freight flows and reduce traffic in the city.

With integrated infrastructure like Ayodhya Airport and the railway stations at Ayodhya, Sohwal, A N Dev Nagar, and Ayodhya Cantt, it would improve multi-modality using these modes of transportation.
