The BJP forecasts that Mamata Banerjee’s West Bengali government would fall within months

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have intensified their criticism of the TMC, saying that the administration of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would collapse within a short period of time. Shantanu Thakur, a BJP member who represents Bongaon in the Lok Sabha, said audaciously that the TMC government’s term will not last more than five months. Thakur said that the TMC’s meddling prevented the BJP from winning a substantially bigger number of seats in the recently ended panchayat elections and that extensive rigging during those elections was the cause of his forecast.

The Mamata Banerjee administration has lost its usefulness, according to Thakur, who is also the Union Minister of State for Shipping. He further chastised the State Election Commission (SEC) for not doing its duties impartially. He stressed the necessity for reform in West Bengal’s administration while expressing his suspicion that the government only had a certain amount of time left.

Sukanta Majumdar, the state president of the BJP, echoed Thakur’s remarks during an organizational meeting to assess the party’s performance in the panchayat elections, saying that anything may happen at any moment in politics. Majumdar raised the prospect of a populist revolt against the TMC’s claimed misgovernance and terrorism as well as the speculative scenario of TMC MLAs defying Mamata Banerjee’s authority. He stressed the possibility of unanticipated political changes while noting that these events may or may not take place.

Majumdar expressed confidence that the central government would take all necessary steps to protect the lives of innocent people in West Bengal regarding his recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, hinting that the Centre may step in to address the state’s law and order situation.

Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition, has earlier demanded the use of Article 355 in West Bengal, highlighting the need of centralized involvement owing to the violence seen during the panchayat elections. A democratically elected government cannot be overthrown, according to Adhikari, but if it does not carry out its constitutional obligations, the Center must step in to stop the spread of anarchy.

Santanu Sen, a Rajya Sabha member for the TMC and the party’s spokesman, responded to these accusations by labeling them as empty efforts by BJP officials, including Adhikari, to boost their popularity in Delhi. Sen refuted the BJP’s claim by pointing out the TMC’s large electoral victory and ongoing support from the general public. He went on to say that any blunder by the BJP will be stopped by the people of West Bengal, implying that previous forecasts by BJP leaders have been disproven.

In a same vein, TMC state general secretary and spokesman Kunal Ghosh criticized the assertions made by the BJP leaders as an attempt to lift the spirits of their discouraged rank and file in the wake of the poor panchayat vote results. Ghosh made clear that the BJP officials are aware of the ridiculousness of their assertions, which calls into question the veracity of their forecasts.
