The first snowfall in Mussoorie and Nainital after a protracted dry spell

In Mussoorie, Nainital, Pithoragarh, and Dehradun, a welcome change unfolded after an extended dry period, as light snowfall graced the nights of Wednesday and Thursday in the popular hill towns. Tourists were delighted as, by Thursday morning, various locales in Mussoorie and Nainital were blanketed in a layer of pristine white.

Munsyari, nestled in the upper reaches of the Kumaon Himalayas, experienced its inaugural snowfall of the season. Khaliya Top, Betuli Dhar, Kalamuni, all proximate to Munsyari, were adorned with 3 to 6 inches of snow. Meanwhile, Panchachuli, Milam, Rajrambha, Gunji, and Kuti received an impressive accumulation of over a foot of the glistening layer, as reported by officials.

Notably, the elevated areas of Mussoorie, such as Lal Tibba, witnessed approximately 2 inches of snow on Thursday. The day saw intermittent snowfall, leaving about an inch of snow on the ground in the Mall Road and surrounding areas.

“The bitter cold and the overcast conditions hint at the possibility of more snowfall at night, potentially boosting the influx of tourists to the town,” remarked Manav Vaish, a local hotelier.

In Nainital, snowfall commenced at China Peak, the highest point in the hill town, on Thursday, while other parts experienced continuous rainfall.
