The Haryana government prohibits internet use in Nuh ahead of the August 28 “Shobha Yatra”

Due to a planned “Shobha Yatra,” the Haryana government has halted mobile internet and bulk SMS services in Nuh till August 28.

The Haryana government said on Saturday that they had made the decision to take this action in order to stop the ‘antisocial elements’ from spreading rumors before the gathering on Monday using social media.

The suspension order was given by T V S N Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary (Home). The order issued by Prasad said, “This order is issued to avoid disruption of peace and public order in the jurisdiction of district Nuh and will be in effect from August 26, 1200 hrs, to August 28, 2359 hrs.

The ACS (Home) was informed earlier on Friday by Nuh Deputy Commissioner in writing that the district has been called upon to hold a “Brij Mandal Shoba Yatra” on August 28 and that there is concern that anti-social elements may use social media and bulk messages to disturb the peace.

According to reports, the DC asked the ACS (Home) to provide the appropriate instructions and said in his letter, “Therefore, it is necessary to suspend all the mobile internet and bulk SMS service in Nuh district to avoid any untoward situation.”

According to reports, Prasad said in his Saturday order that the internet’s ability to disseminate rumors and incendiary information poses an obvious risk for disrupting public utilities, damaging public property and facilities, and upsetting public law and order in Nuh.

The mobile internet services (2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, CDMA, GPRS), bulk SMS (with the exception of banking and mobile recharging), and all dongle services offered through mobile networks—aside from voice calls—were temporarily suspended per his instruction.

After racial tensions erupted, the Haryana government previously put a halt to mobile internet access in Nuh.

Six people, including two house guards and a priest, had perished in the racial confrontations that broke out in Nuh on July 31 when a crowd stormed a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) religious procession.
