Top Quotes from Amit Shah’s Response to the Opposition in the Lok Sabha: “No-Confidence Motion Brought To Confuse People”

In a heated response to a debate on a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the violence in Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday attacked the opposition, branding it “politically motivated” in a speech that was filled with emotion. In contrast to claims that the Modi administration has neglected the northeastern state, Shah emphasized the accomplishments of the government and the humanitarian work it has done for farmers, youth, and women.

Shah hoisted the ‘Quit India’ signs, which caused a ruckus. A loud chorus of NDA lawmakers joined him in chanting, “Quit India, dynasty Quit India, appeasement Quit India.”

Shah, making reference to former prime minister PV Narasimha Rao’s no-trust vote in 1993, said that previous Congress administrations had made the decision to maintain power “by hook or by crook.” According to him, Atal Bihari Vajpayee opted to resign rather than engage in corruption to keep his administration in power when it was under threat of a no-trust vote in 1999.

The following are the key quotes from his address to the Lok Sabha:

Regarding the motion for a vote of no confidence

“The no-confidence motion brought to confuse people…(it is) a politically motivated move,” the motion said.

“The opposition may not believe in Prime Minister Modi, but the Indian people do.The Modi government has been elected twice, and Modi is India’s most successful prime minister.

UPA Government

“In such moments of crisis, the nature of political parties and coalitions is exposed. The character of the UPA is to use all means necessary to sustain the government, but the character of the BJP-led NDA is to uphold moral standards.

“The three evils of Indian politics are corruption, dynastic politics, and appeasement. PM Modi completed them. He now engages in performance politics.

About Kashmir

On Modi’s attempts to combat terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, “We will talk to the youth of Kashmir valley, not Hurriyat, Jamiat, and Pakistan,” he said.

About Development

“Since 2014, Modi has ushered in a new era of politics, one of development that will result in the birth of the India of our freedom fighters’ visions much earlier than 2047.”
