Two people arrested for transporting livestock

Eighteen head of cattle that were purportedly being transported in a “inhumane” way in a truck have been found by the police. In accordance with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, they have filed a complaint and taken two people into custody.

According to a police officer, they stopped a truck on Sunday night near the KMP Expressway in the Antoha Mor neighborhood after receiving information about cow smuggling and the brutal and inhumane treatment of animals in transit.

According to him, the accused were discovered in a car with up to 21 animals—three calves had died and 18 cows were still alive. It was alleged that the animals were being transported to a location in Maharashtra for slaughter from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.

The third culprit in the case is being sought for by the police as well. On Monday, the two detained suspects were placed under 24-hour police detention in order to continue their questioning. An further investigation into the matter has been initiated due to suspicions that it may have anything to do with the threat posed by livestock smuggling in the area.
