Uttarakhand: Heavy Rains Cause 9 Deaths, 6 Other Injuries; CM Dhami Assesses the Situation – Key Points

Nine persons have passed away in various rain-related events during the last 24 hours around Uttarakhand as relentless heavy monsoon continues to pound the state. On Wednesday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the situation and gave all district judges the go-ahead to be vigilant.

In the events, which also wounded around six others, one person is still missing.

As the rain continues, the death toll rises

In the early hours of Wednesday under nonstop rain, a large landslide struck the hut where two brothers were resting, killing two of them and injuring a third. According to reports, this is Gaurikund’s second landslide in the last five days.

Nandan Singh Rajwar, the disaster management officer for the Rudraprayag District, claims that a landslide from the top of the hill struck the hut near the helipad in Gaurikund Village, burying four members of a family under the rubble.

After receiving the information, rescue workers went to the scene, extricated the kids, and then transported them to a nearby public hospital.

Sweety, an eight-year-old, managed to survive the tragedy and is now receiving medical attention for her wounds, while Pinky, a five-year-old, and another little kid were pronounced dead at the hospital.

The family occupying the hut was a native of Nepal. The father of the kids, Satyaraj, left for his hometown in Nepal as a laborer.

The location in Gaurikund hamlet is about half a kilometer from the area where a landslide on August 4 left three people dead and 20 more missing.

In Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, the NDRF Friday night rescued persons who were trapped in flooded districts of Dhalwala and Khara.

In the last 24 hours, two separate traffic incidents in the Pauri region of Uttarakhand resulted in five fatalities and as many injuries, according to authorities.

According to State Disaster Response Force officer Praveen Rathi, who oversaw the rescue effort on Tuesday night in Gumkhal, four people—including a father and son—died after their automobile plummeted into a steep canyon.

After the accident, SDRF officials arrived quickly and started the rescue effort.

With the use of rope stretchers, the crew first removed three corpses from the canyon and transported them to the main road, according to Rathi.

After the collision, one more automobile passenger was missing for many hours. He said that his corpse was subsequently found, however.

According to the SDRF official, the dead were named as Chandramohan Singh Bisht (62), his son Atul Bisht (35), and two other people, Dinesh Singh (63) and Kamal Bisht (45).

He said that the accident occurred when the four men were traveling back to their hamlet of Devdali in the Jaiharikhal region from the Gumkhal market.
