West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sustains a head injury in a tumble at home; she is treated and released

Mamata Banerjee, the founder of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the chief minister of West Bengal, was injured by a bleed on her forehead on Thursday night after she fell inside a room at her home in south Kolkata’s Kalighat neighborhood, her brother Kartick Banerjee informed the media.

The chief minister was hurried by her family to the three-kilometer-distant, state-run SSKM Hospital.

After receiving initial treatment and tests confirming that her health was stable, Banerjee was released from the hospital and permitted to return home, despite the establishment of an eight-member medical board by the hospital administration.

A few hundred TMC activists hurried to the hospital after engaging in street campaigning for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Banerjee was first admitted to a cabin, but at approximately 9.30 p.m., the physicians gave her permission to go.

A hospital physician, who wished to remain anonymous, stated: “Her forehead was injured. In order to stop the bleeding, we had to suture it. A number of tests were conducted to determine the impact of the damage. To determine whether the chief minister collapsed due to a rapid drop in blood pressure or slid and fell, further testing is required.

The incident occurred soon after Banerjee got home from an event honoring senior Congress and TMC politician Subrata Mukherjee in Gariahat in south Kolkata.

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of the chief minister, was at home when the event occurred, according to TMC politician Rajib Banerjee.

“Abhishek Banerjee took the chief minister to hospital,” claimed Rajib.

On social media, images of the chief minister with blood streaming from her forehead went viral. Shortly after the accident, the TMC social media team shared these. All political leaders, including the BJP, wished her a quick recovery.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished Banerjee a speedy recovery.

On the eve of an election, the chief minister sustained two injuries.

When Banerjee was campaigning at the Nadigram assembly seat that she contested in March 2021, she was hurt in an accident in East Midnapore. From a wheelchair, she completed the remainder of the campaign on behalf of herself and the other TMC candidates. However, Banerjee was defeated by Suvendu Adhikari of the BJP in the Nandigram poll. In order to remain chief minister, she had to run in a by-election in Kolkata.

When Banerjee claimed that the Nandigram catastrophe was the result of a deliberate assault, it sparked a discussion. At that point, while police began their inquiry, the Election Commission of India requested a report on Banerjee’s security precautions. Days before the eight-phase elections, in which the TMC won 215 seats and the BJP obtained 75, the parties fired shots at one another.

Speculations about a conspiracy emerged late on Thursday night when Dr. Manimoy Bandopadhyay, director of the Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research at SSKM Hospital, read out a medical bulletin stating that the incident happened “in the vicinity” of the chief minister’s home and that she fell “due to some push from behind,” despite TMC leaders and the chief minister’s brother, Kartick Banerjee, telling the media that she fell inside her home.

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, arrived at our hospital around 7:30 p.m. today. She has a history of falling close to her house after being pushed from behind. She had a severe cut to her forehead that was bleeding heavily in addition to having a brain concussion.”

As stated by Kartick Banerjee’s wife, Kajari Banerjee, a TMC councillor, “We don’t know exactly what happened but he heard that someone pushed from behind.”

No policeman has yet to provide a statement on the matter.
