What is now known about the Kerala serial blasts?

Kerala DGP Dr. Shaik Darvesh Saheb said that after a series of explosions in Kalamassery, Kerala, on Sunday, at least one person—a woman—died and 36 others were wounded. Witnesses reported seeing three consecutive explosions at a Jehovah’s Witness prayer meeting for Christians at the Zamra International Convention & Exhibition Center. All roads leading to the bomb scene have been blocked off by security guards as a National Investigation Agency (NIA) anti-terror squad arrives to gather evidence. After consulting with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the Central government has authorized an anti-terror investigation, while the nature of the bomb is yet unknown.

We now know the following about the Kerala serial blasts:

Three consecutive explosions targeted a Christian prayer meeting led by Jehovah’s Witnesses at the Zamra International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Kalamassery, Kerala.

The explosion occurred at the Zamra International Convention & Exhibition Centre at around 9:40 am, according to Kerala DGP Dr. Shaik Darvesh Saheb. One person died and 36 others are being treated.

Over two thousand individuals attended the prayer meeting. Initial reports said that around twenty-one people were hurt and one person had died.

Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, has directed senior state officials to arrive at the location. He said that the Kerala DGP has also been sent to the bomb scene at Ernakulam (Kalamassery).

According to Vijayan, they are taking it seriously and will provide further information after their inquiry.

After speaking with Chief Minister Vijayan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah assessed the circumstances. Additionally, he has instructed the National Security Guard (NSG) and the National inquiry Agency (NIA) to arrive at the location for an inquiry.

In the meanwhile, in light of the Kalamassery serial bombings, the Kerala Health Ministry has instructed medical personnel to report for duty.

Six of the 25 patients at the hospital, according to Kerala LoP and state Congress president VD Satheesan, are in the intensive care unit. The Congress leader reported that one woman had perished in the explosions. According to him, the two subsequent explosions were relatively moderate in intensity, although the initial bomb had a tremendous intensity.

To gather evidence, a group of forensic specialists from NIA has arrived at the location. Whether it was a targeted terror attack is yet unknown.

The series of explosions happened the day after a Hamas representative apparently spoke at a demonstration in Kerala attended by pro-Palestine demonstrators. In the midst of the current Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip, the head of Hamas allegedly urged the demonstrators to go to the streets and join the jihad in favor of Palestinians.
