A 40-foot blue whale carcass was discovered in Ratnagiri

Navi Mumbai: On Saturday night, the corpse of a five-year-old blue whale washed up on the beach in Mandvi, in the Ratnagiri district. The whale was around forty feet long. Because of the body’s extreme decomposition, specialists were unable to determine its sex.

The corpse was quickly buried by the police at 3am on Sunday since the popular tourist destination is bordered by homes.

Nevertheless, the corpse was exposed by high tide, and the lingering odor alarmed the residents.
Since November of last year, there have been two blue whale deaths in the district. Divisional Forest Officer (territorial) Girija Desai said, “We are clueless as to the animal’s exact date of death or cause of death. A viscera sample was not collected.
