Who was former Maharashtra chief minister Manohar Joshi?

Manohar Joshi, the former chief minister of Maharashtra, died in Mumbai on February 23 at the age of 86. He had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital.

Manohar Joshi died early on Friday morning, according to Hinduja Hospital, a private medical institution. Joshi was brought to the intensive care unit (ICU) on February 21. He died on Friday around three in the morning.

Unmesh, his son, told Hindustan Times that his father had been brought to the intensive care unit and was being monitored. On Wednesday he had heart problems. He suffered from chronic age-related illnesses. The lifeless remains will be transported to our Matunga home prior to the last ceremonies being held at Shivaji Park Crematorium.

Manohar Joshi, who went by the nickname Joshi Sir, was the first chief minister to be appointed from inside the Shiv Sena after it was dissolved in 1995. From 2002 to 2005, he served as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

After beginning his political career in the Rashthriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the former chief minister of Maharashtra went on to become one of the most esteemed members of the Shiv Sena.

Manohar Joshi, the former chief minister of Maharashtra, studied civil engineering and graduated from Mumbai’s renowned Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI). Anagha Joshi, his wife, passed away in 2020 at the age of 75.
Joshi joined the Shiv Sena in 1967, having previously served in the RSS, to start his political career.

He served as Mumbai’s municipal councilor from 1968 to 1970. In addition, he served as Mumbai’s mayor from 1976 to 1977.
Following his election to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in 1990, Manohar Joshi served as the assembly’s Leader of the Opposition from 1990 to 1991. After winning the 1999 general elections, he was named the Union minister of Public Enterprises and Heavy Industries.

The pinnacle of his political career was reached in 1995 when he was appointed chief minister of Maharashtra. Sharad Pawar of the Indian National Congress was succeeded by him as the first chief minister from the Shiv Sena.

In addition to being elected as a member of parliament, Joshi served as Speaker of the Lok Sabha during the Vajpayee government’s tenure from 2002 to 2004.
