Will ‘Thoroughly’ Clean Delhi in two months: Mayor

On Thursday, Mayor Dr. Shelly Oberoi vowed to make Delhi spotless in two months, declaring that “thoroughly cleaning each ward” would be the goal of specific cleanliness initiatives being run in each zone.

Officials claimed Oberoi had a review meeting with all of the zonal DCs of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to talk about, among other local concerns, Delhi’s cleanliness, the desilting of drains, road repairs, and park care.

The mayor gave staff instructions to work with council members to improve public services during the meeting. Additionally underlined were the value of frequent internal audits and the prioritisation of problem solving.

The cleaning of drains in the MCD regions is almost finished, however certain drains in other departments are still waiting, officials told Mayor Dr. Shelly Oberoi at the review meeting.

The mayor requested a list of the pertinent drains to develop collaboration with other departments for their cleaning in order to solve this. This coordinated effort attempts to avoid Delhi being too wet during the monsoon season, according to a statement from the mayor’s office.

“Dr. Shelly Oberoi reaffirmed her pledge to sanitising Delhi thoroughly in two months. All campaign staff will take part in special campaigns that are run in each zone. In each zone, a drive to clear building and demolition debris would also be started, the statement said.

Mukesh Goyal, the leader of the House, underlined the need of officials from all 12 zones cooperating and addressing public-related concerns on a merit-based basis. He said that enough finances will also be supplied to assist the municipal body’s activities.

All regional DCs have received instructions to fix street lights and maintain cleanliness around mosques in honour of the holiday of Eid-ul-Adha.

Aaley Mohammad Iqbal, the deputy mayor, emphasised the need of keeping Old Delhi and other sites clean.

To provide a hassle-free experience for the public, the municipal corporation will execute cleaning operations three times throughout the event, according to the mayor’s office.
