Yamuna Water Level Remains Above Danger Mark Despite Opening Two of Five Jammed ITO Barrage Gates in Delhi, According to the Most Recent Updates

On Tuesday, the ITO Barrage in Delhi had one more clogged gate that was opened, bringing the total number of opened gates to two.

Three gates are still obstructed. The opening of gates is anticipated to lessen the flooding situation in the national capital since the clogged gates are preventing water from leaving Delhi.

Although the Yamuna’s water level has been trending downward, it is still flowing over the 205.33-meter danger limit. According to the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Yamuna’s water level was 206.01 meters as of 8 am on Tuesday.

In other news, Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, said on Tuesday that the Wazirabad water treatment facility has started up.

Here are the most recent flood and waterlogging news about Delhi.

ITO barrage gates 2 and 5 opened
Two of the five blocked ITO Barrage gates have finally been unlocked after days of labor.

According to tweets from Delhi’s water minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, the second gate was opened on Tuesday morning.

He tweeted images of the barrage along with the following statement: “The gate number 30 of ITO barrage was opened at 5:19 today.”

Since July 13, the Indian Army, Navy, and other personnel have started working at the ITO Barrage. The Delhi and Haryana governments have quarreled over the matter even as they are attempting to unlock the stuck gates. According to PTI, the AAP has accused the BJP-led Haryana government, which owns the barrage, of failing to maintain it. Haryana has, in turn, accused the AAP of failing to pay engineer overtime.

Restart of the Wazirabad water treatment plant
The Wazirabad water treatment facility has resumed operations, CM Kejriwal tweeted on Tuesday.

Wazirabad had previously been closed along with the water treatment facilities at Chandrawal and Okhla due to the Yamuna’s rising water level. The capital faced drinking water problems as a result of this. The supply of drinking water is anticipated to return to normal now that all three units are operating normally.

According to the PTI, the three facilities’ shutdown caused a 25% decrease in water supply.

Additionally, the Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant has begun operating at full capacity. All WTPs are now operating at full capacity. DJB put in a lot of effort. Thank you, DJB!” tweeted Kejriwal.

On Friday, the Okha plant was restarted, and on Sunday, the Chandrawal plant.

Yamuna water level drops, yet it still above the danger limit.
On Tuesday, the water level in Delhi’s Yamuna decreased but remained over the danger limit.

The Yamuna water level in Delhi reached 205.01 meters as of 8 am on Tuesday, much beyond the danger limit of 205.33 meters. By 7 pm, tt is predicted to fall even further, to 205.41 meters, according to the PTI.

“Further fall is anticipated given that the Hathnikund Barrage flow rate in Haryana’s Yamunanagar has been declining over the last two days. After reaching its highest point on Thursday at 208.66 meters, the river has been progressively retreating, according to PTI.

Delhi had more than a month’s worth of rain in only two days earlier this month, which caused the Yamuna to overflow and the city to become flooded. Additionally, regulators and embankments were damaged, which made the flooding problems worse.

“At first, heavy rains on July 8 and 9 caused severe waterlogging, with the city getting 125% of its monthly rainfall limit in only two days. The Yamuna then swelled to record levels as a result of intense rainfall in the higher catchment regions, which included Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana, according to PTI.
