An extraordinary victory for the Kings

In today’s IPL match at this venue, the Chennai Super Kings were demoralized by seven wickets following a pragmatic pursuit by the Punjab Kings. The charge was completed in their own sanctuary.

Rilee Rossouw (43 off 23 balls, with 5 fours and 2 sixes) and Jonny Bairstow (46 off 30 balls, with 7 fours and 1 six) each scored 40 runs in rapid succession to propel Punjab past Chennai’s modest 162/7, which was supported by captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s sturdy 62 off 48 balls (5 fours and 2 sixes).

CSK maintained its position in fourth with ten points, while PBKS advanced to seventh place with eight points.

The Super Kings’ 163-run defense encountered numerous obstacles, including dew-impaired spinners Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja and pacer Deepak Chahar’s departure from the field with an injury after bowling only two deliveries.

Nevertheless, this should not dampen PBKS’s performance with the bat throughout the evening. Following opener Prabhsimran Singh’s early departure, Bairstow and Rossouw maintained the visitors’ interest with a useful 64-run partnership and also scored over 50 during the powerplay.

Bairstow was contemptuous of the spinners, Jadeja and Moeen. In stark contrast to their Punjab counterparts, the CSK spinners conceded unreturned runs totaling 44 in five overs.

Sam Curran, the captain, and Shashank Singh (25 not out off 26 deliveries) effortlessly struck off the remaining runs during their unbroken 50-run partnership (26 not out off 20 balls).

Previously, Gaikwad fortified CSK by fifty off a lethargic Chepauk delivery, but the visitors from Punjab labored abysmally against the spinners Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar. Brar and Chahar made effective use of the sluggish pitch to their advantage, accumulating a total of 4/33 in eight overs. Furthermore, they refused to cede any boundaries.

“I do not consider wickets.” My objective is to bowl a large number of dot balls during my span, as they generate opportunities. “The confidence of the bowler increases when the wicket has spin,” said Brar, who was dubbed the Match’s Player of the Match. — PTI

Mayank is iffy for the remainder of the IPL.

New Delhi: After suffering a presumed abdominal muscle “tear” against the Mumbai Indians, pace sensation Mayank Yadav’s participation in the remaining rounds of the IPL round-robin appears unlikely. This is his second injury collapse in the past four weeks. A silver lining, however, is that the BCCI is expected to award the 21-year-old Delhi resident a pace bowling contract, joining Umran Malik, Vidwath Kaverappa, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Yash Dayal, and Akash Deep. Mayank will be subject to the oversight of NCA’s Sports Science and Medical team, which will manage his injury and oversee his fitness regimen on behalf of his IPL franchise, Lucknow Super Giants. “Mayank has a tear, but it is Grade 1 at the very least.” A BCCI source speculated that if LSG qualifies for the quarterfinals, he might be able to participate in the knockout games.
