Ashes 2023: Ben Stokes’ remarkable knock at Lord’s receives praise from England captain Virat Kohli

After Ben Stokes’ 155-ball innings in the second Ashes Test at Lord’s, former India captain and batting legend Virat Kohli praised the current England Test skipper, setting off a Twitter frenzy. (Also in Cricket)

He is the most competitive player Virat Kohli has faced, according to him. Australia defeated England by 43 runs to defeat England and take a 2-0 series lead in the five-match Ashes 2023 series. Stokes’ knock of 155 runs was insufficient.

The former captain of India praised Stokes’ combative innings on Twitter. The all-rounder hit nine boundaries and as many sixes in his 155 runs off 214 balls.

“When I said that Ben Stokes was the most competitive opponent I’ve ever faced, I wasn’t joking. Innings of the highest calibre, but Australia is currently too strong,” Kohli tweeted.

Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood ended Stokes’ innings after the latter top-edged a short delivery and was caught by the wicket-keeper Alex Carey.

Stokes received appreciation from Steve Smith and fellow Ashes adversary Virat Kohli in addition to Kohli. Smith said of Ben Stokes in his post-game interview: “Ben Stokes is an unbelievable player, a freak, with the things he can pull off.”
