Asian Athletics Championships 2023: Ankita wins bronze and Parul Chaudhary wins silver in the 5000-meter race

Parul Chaudhary, a renowned Indian distance runner, earned silver in the 5000-meter race on Sunday to take home her second medal of the Asian Athletics Championships.

In the 5000m final, Chaudhary, who had won gold in the 3000m steeplechase on Friday, finished in a time of 15 minutes 52.35 seconds, just behind Yuma Yamamoto of Japan (15:51.16).

The 5000-meter national record, held by Chaudhary, 28, is 15:10.35.

Ankita took up the bronze in 16:03.33, giving India two medals overall. Earlier, in the men’s and women’s 800m races, Kishan Kumar and KM Chanda ran their personal best speeds to earn silver medals apiece.

Chanda finished the two-lap race in 2:01.58, behind Sri Lanka’s MK Dissanayaka (2:00.66), while Kumar crossed the finish line in 1:45.88 to place second behind Abubaker H Abdalla (1:45.53) of Qatar.

Chanda equaled her previous career best of 2:01.58 while Kumar beat his previous personal best of 1:46.17.
