David Miller: “SA Will Definitely Win World Cup One Day,” a lot of boxes have been checked

Although suffering a sixth World Cup semifinal defeat is upsetting, South Africa will undoubtedly be proud of their efforts in this competition, and seasoned batter David Miller thinks it will only be a matter of time before they win the prized title.

Australia’s tight three-wicket victory against the Proteas on Thursday was aided by Miller’s century and a disciplined bowling display. The World Cup’s enduring “chokers,” South Africa, who dominated the group stage with their potent batting, lost in the semifinal.

“To tell the truth, I find it rather annoying. Miller informed reporters at this location, “Quinny (Quinton De Kock) mentioned with his four hundreds, he is okay not to score any runs and win the trophy.”

“You want to advance to the championship game and try your hand at winning the trophy. We’re glad we persevered and managed to put up a total. That is how cricket is played. South Africa’s left-arm fast Marco Jansen and speed bowling all-rounder Gerald Coetzee, who just made his ODI debut in March of this year, have both performed well at this World Cup.

“We discussed about enjoying the experience and making wonderful memories before the event began. We accomplished a lot, and we can look back and say we had a terrific time. Though losing in the semifinals doesn’t help, the players shown great character, Miller added.

“We all participated in various competitions and teams. It’s a similar item. This was not to be the time. However, the team will undoubtedly win the World Cup. We demonstrated our abilities,” he stated.

Their most recent World Cup collapse was in the quarterfinal match in Auckland in 2015 against New Zealand, when the co-hosts prevailed in a rain-affected contest with only one ball left.

Miller said, “There were a lot more tears in Auckland,” when asked about the atmosphere this time. Losing a World Cup semifinal is not a pleasant experience. However, the squad had a fantastic season with reliable results (in this edition). People have made an impression, so losing this is quite upsetting,” he said.

When asked whether he was considering retiring, the 34-year-old said, “I’ll see how it goes.” I’m not sure how my body feels at the moment. I will evaluate it on an annual basis. The next World Cup is a very long way off. Although captain Temba Bavuma acknowledged before to the game that he was not fully healthy, he nonetheless played and finished the tournament with a four-ball duck, which was his best score of 35.

Miller, however, stood by his captain and said that his leadership had made a difference.

“Bavuma didn’t get as many runs as he had hoped for. However, he completed his fitness test and was OK. Of course, he wasn’t perfect, but as a leader, I believe he’s truly come of age in the last 18 months. He has raised the bar for ODI cricket.

He sadly didn’t score any runs. However, having a leader such as him is always crucial. He performed well,” Miller said.
